Dominion Earth — frequently asked questions
Everything people ask before they sign up, answered plainly.
Is Dominion Earth free to play?
Yes. Dominion Earth is completely free to play. There is no purchase, no subscription, no advertising and nothing to buy that affects how a ship performs. Every one of the ten ships is available to every player from the first match.
Do I need to download or install anything to play Dominion Earth?
No. Dominion Earth runs entirely in a web browser. There is no client, no launcher, no plugin and no app store. Open the site, sign in and you are in a match. It can also be added to a phone or tablet home screen and will then open like an installed app.
Can I play Dominion Earth on a phone or tablet?
Yes. Dominion Earth works in a mobile browser on both phones and tablets, with on-screen touch controls for flying, firing and the ship systems. Players on phones, tablets and desktops all play together in the same sectors.
Can I play Dominion Earth on my own, without other people online?
Yes. Every scenario in Dominion Earth can be launched as an AI sector, where bot pilots fill both sides so a match is never empty. The bots on your side become your wing and take orders from you in plain language, so playing alone is still playing a fleet.
How many players are in a Dominion Earth match?
A Dominion Earth sector holds up to sixteen ships. In a mixed sector any seat not taken by a person is flown by a bot, so the match is always at full strength however many people are online.
How long does a match of Dominion Earth last?
A Dominion Earth match runs until its objective is met rather than to a clock. A kill-count scenario is typically over in ten to twenty minutes; taking a planet across all nine of its ground sectors takes longer. Players can leave and rejoin at any point, and score is kept against the pilot rather than the match.
What makes Dominion Earth different from other space games?
Three things. Guns in Dominion Earth are mounted directionally and fire along their own facing, so a target off your wing is engaged by cycling to that gun rather than by turning. Planets are captured one ground sector at a time by landing warriors from a carrier, so a match has a front line rather than a health bar. And the AI pilots on your side take spoken or typed orders, so a single player commands a fleet.
Do I need an account to play Dominion Earth?
Yes, and it is free. An account keeps your callsign, your service record and your settings — controls, audio and display — so they follow you to any machine you sign in on. You can register with an email address and password or use a passkey.
Is Dominion Earth pay to win?
No. Nothing in Dominion Earth can be bought. All ten ships, every weapon and every special are available to all players from the start, and rank is earned on points scored rather than anything purchased.
What ships can you fly in Dominion Earth?
Dominion Earth has ten ships, five on each side. Earth flies the Kestrel, Falcon, Hawk, Gyrfalcon and Landing Ship; the Dominion flies the Chariotship, Warriorship, Hoppership, Plasmaship and Tankership. The two rosters mirror each other on hull, armour, speed and turn rate, and differ in the guns they carry and what they are allowed to do.
How do you capture a planet in Dominion Earth?
Each planet in Dominion Earth has nine ground sectors. A carrier loads warriors at its home world, flies to the planet and lands them on one sector at a time. A captured sector becomes a ground base that fires artillery at enemy ships in orbit, and the planet only changes hands once all nine sectors are held.
Can you give orders to the AI pilots in Dominion Earth?
Yes. In an AI sector the bot pilots on your side are your wing and take orders typed into the comms panel or spoken aloud. They understand plain instructions such as attacking a target in a named map square, splitting the flight between two jobs, fetching warriors and returning, or forming up on you, and they report back when the job is done.
Does Dominion Earth have voice chat?
Yes, and it is off until you turn it on. Dominion Earth includes browser-based voice comms with microphone and headset selection, a level meter, and a choice of hold-to-talk or latched talk. Voice orders to the AI wing are a separate, separately-bound feature.
Is Dominion Earth a new game or a remake?
Dominion Earth is a new game, built from scratch, whose design descends from a late-1990s online space-combat game whose servers were shut down in 2001. The code, the artwork and the simulation are original; what carries over is the shape of the design — directional guns, ground sectors on planets, and score banked only when you dock.
Still deciding?
The fastest answer is a match. It is free, there is nothing to install, and an AI sector will be waiting whatever the time of day.
